Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences

Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences (NAIHS) is a not-for-profit medical education endeavor of the Welfare Fund of the Nepali Army established with a vision of developing skilled and professional human resources in the field of medical education by providing an optimal educational environment and improve the quality of medical service of Nepali Army and nation as a whole. It is managed by the Directorate General of Directorate of Welfare Planning of Nepali Army. Its advisory committee comprises of all relevant directorates of the Nepali Army under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

 

To ensure simplified and easy access of army children in the field of medical education, General Chhatra Man Singh Gurung (Retd), by then COAS laid the foundation stone of NAIHS on 2067/08/02 B.S. but later inaugurated by then right Honorable President of Nepal, Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, on 10thJestha 2069 B.S. (23 May 2012 A.D.). Thus 10th Jestha is celebrated as the annual day of the institution and this 10th of Jestha 2079 marks 10th anniversary of NAIHS.

 

NAIHS ensures medical education to the children of regular and retired army personnel, heroic death or death in line of duty and fully disabled army personnel as well as general public with the provision of fixed quotas. Under its three colleges (College of Medicine, College of Nursing, and College of Medical Polytechnic), NAIHS currently caters 19 Post Graduate courses , 5 Bachelor level programs (MBBS, Bsc. Nursing, BNS, BPH and BSc. MLT) and 6 diploma level programs (PCL nursing, General Medicine, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Lab technology and Diagnostic Radiology). For the academic year 2078/79, NAIHS has been allocated with MBBS-100, Bsc. Nursing-40, BNS- 40, BPH-20 and BSc.MLT-12 seats. NAIHS aims to extend its Bachelor level programs like BDS, B. Pharm. etc, Masters level programs like MD/MS/MN and super specialization (DM/MCh) programs in the near future.

 

In these past glorious ten years, NAIHS has proven itself to be one of the premier institutes in the field of health professions’ education and is amongst the top choice of medical students in Nepal.Overall, NAIHS strives to address the existing medical, paramedical and nursing health professional in Nepal by encompassing all heath related fields.

 

Shree Birendra Hospital is the teaching hospital of NAIHS and is located in Chauni, Kathmandu.It is a tertiary level, modern,central and referral hospital of Nepali Army. The hospital currently has 635 beds and it provides almost all types of medical services to the serving army personnel, retired army personnel, retired army personnel civilian faculty members and staffs of NAIHS and their dependents
